Tampons
[Dr. Schulze]

Anyone who has any vaginal problems should not use tampons.

Tampons are made with bleached paper, they are known to contain dioxin. Dioxin is carcinogenic. There's a lot of people who theorize that the high rate of cervical cancer is due to the bleaches on tampons. You ought to get rid of tampons and go to sanitary napkins. There are tampons available in the health food stores without bleached fibers.

Tartrazine
better known as "yellow dye no. 5", is used as yellow food color in a large number of prescription drugs, cereals, dried fruit, cakes, gelatin, ice cream, cookies, margarine, butter, pasta, cheese, etc. I have even found it added in papayas bought at the Health Food Store. However, it was not labeled on the individual packages. Yellow dye no. 5 may cause Allergies and Asthma (Ironically, even allergy drugs may contain Tartrazine.) But, more importantly, Tartrazine may lead to a deficiency of vitamin B6 and Zinc. Vitamin B6 is needed for proper neural functioning of the brain. It is also used by the body to manufacture progesterone which is needed to process excess Estrogen. This information may be very important for anyone but even more so for all those woman who suspect that excess estrogen may be the cause for fibroid and other kinds of tumors. Zinc is important for 200 enzyme systems and to fight infections.

Taurine
Taurine is a non-essential amino acid which can be derived from your diet or synthesized from the amino acid cysteine, if there is enough cysteine & pyridoxal-5-phosphate (co-enzyme B6.) Taurine is highly concentrated in animal & fish protein.

Taurine is essential to fetal & new born central nervous system development. The infant cannot initially manufacture taurine & must obtain taurine from its mother's milk.

Taurine plays a variety of roles in the normal functioning of the brain, heart, gallbladder, eyes, & vascular system. It is the most important & abundant free amino acid in your heart & contributes to your heart muscles' contractility & regulation of its rhythm.

Taurine acts as a neurotransmitter in your brain where it is the second most abundant amino acid. It also protects & stabilizes the brain cells' fragile membranes. It is an inhibitory calming neurotransmitter.

Taurine acts by regulating the sodium & potassium concentration in the cells & the magnesium level between the cells. This has everything to do with the electrical activity of the cells & subsequent communication between cells. By this mechanism, it has anti-anxiety & anti-convulsant activity

Taurine is found in high concentrations in your eyes & is the most abundant amino acid in your retina.

Taurine is known to re-invigorate the natural killer cells of your immune system & to stimulate the release of the immune substance, Interleukin-1.

Additional benefits & uses are:

  • Plays a role in decreasing the development of cataracts.
  • Useful in the management of chemical sensitivities as a powerful sulfur donor which removes foreign material & oxidized chlorine.
  • Useful with malabsorption of fats.
  • Important for proper bile production & fat metabolism, thus the ability to reduce body cholesterol.
  • For anxiety, agitation, hyperactivity.
  • For insomnia.
  • Depression.
  • Vegetarianism.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Certain heart iregularities.
  • Congestive heart failure.
  • Diabetes, potentiates & improves the action of insulin.
  • Alcoholism.
  • Gallbladder disease.
  • Macular degeneration/retinitis pigmentosa.
  • Immune problems.

Tea Tree Oil
The Tea Tree (melaleuca alternifolia) is a member of the Myrtaceae family and is an indigenous species to Northern New South Wales, Australia. The oil is found within the cells of the leaves, and as the Tea Tree is extremely fast-growing it is constantly renewable, ensuring that no trees are harmed or destroyed.

Tea Tree Oil was used by aborigine tribes for thousands of years as a healing plant, crushing the leaves into mudpacks to treat cuts and skin infections. Stories were told of a magical, healing lagoon, in which the local tribe bathed as a treatment for wounds, burns and other ailments. In fact, it was a pond into which tea tree leaves had fallen, creating a naturally antiseptic bath.

Famous British explorer Captain Cook is held as the man responsible for the name 'tea tree'. In 1770 when he and his men landed at Botany Bay, Cook brewed the leaves of the tree for his men to drink to prevent scurvy.

As early as 1923, clinical trials in Australia began to provide scientific evidence for tea tree's antiseptic and bactericidal properties. Its 'cure-all' effects made it standard issue in the first aid kits of the Australian Army and Navy during World War II.

Nowadays you will find that virtually every Australian household has a bottle of tea tree oil in the medicine cabinet, with recent clinical trials confirming the efficacy of tea tree oil with skin conditions and fungal infections. The antiseptic, germicide, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial immune-boosting qualities of tea tree oil mean that it may be applied to a huge range of health conditions. Additionally, the antiseptic benefits of the oil allow its use as a natural cleaner and disinfectant in the household environment.

[Dr. Schulze]

Tea tree oil is an antibacterial and antifungal; it's also very effective as an anti-viral. Do not use it full-strength. Use a solution of 10% tea tree oil and 90% jojoba oil. A little tea tree oil over that area afterwards is a little more soothing and anti-inflammatory and that works very nice too. You can scrub that in, also.

There is a site for Tea Tree Oil information here.

Tension Headache
Most experts believe that the majority of headaches are muscle tension-type. Community-based epidemiological studies have found that 14% of men and 29% of women have had headaches either every few days or headaches which significantly bothered them.

Tension headache is generally described as a bilateral dull ache, pressure or cap-like pain that is usually located in the forehead, neck and shoulder regions. The headache typically occurs from two to seven days a week and can last from one hour to all day; a small proportion of tension headache sufferers have continuous headache.

Tension headaches are often associated with allergies or food sensitivities.

Testosterone
[Michelle Johnson, ND]

You have probably heard of the hormone, "testosterone" and probably assumed from any conversation you may have heard about it that it's a male sex hormone. The assumption would therefore follow that its main clinical use would be associated with male hormone deficiency or imbalance. But in order to put testosterone in proper perspective, we need to stop thinking of it in terms of sex. While this is obviously one of its important roles, there is much more to this remarkable hormone than that. Testosterone is a metabolic powerhouse of amazing versatility. It is one of the major regulators of sugar, fat, and protein metabolism. In other words, testosterone is a very important key to good health and long life. Ample research now indicates that testosterone is our most neglected hormone, and when it's properly used is a marvelous adjunct in the fight against aging-in both sexes.

Threonine
Threonine is an essential amino acid, meaning you must obtain it from dietary protein or by supplementation. It can convert to glycine, serine, & glucose in the central nervous system. Threonine can make body protein structures & participates in the storage of glucose in your liver. Severe deficiency of threonine causes neurologic dysfunction & lameness in experimental animals.

Low levels of threonine are often found in those who are depressed or epileptic.

Threonine:

  • Has antidepressant actions.
  • Is helpful with fatty liver.
  • Is essential for normal growth.
  • Is effective with muscle spasticity to give some relief.
  • Has been effective as a symptomatic treatment in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis especially when used within 2 years of the onset of the disease.
  • May be helpful with the spasticity of multiple sclerosis & other spastic neurological conditions.
  • Provides immune system support.
  • May reduce hypersensitivity reactions to gluten.

Thyme

Thymol
Thyme contains the powerful antiseptic thymol as the active ingredient.

Thymus
The thymus is the primary gland of the immune svstem. Among the functions of the thymus is the production of T-lymphocytes (a form of white blood cell which cell-mediates immunity) and several hormones which regulate immune activity. The thymus is highly susceptible to oxidative and free-radical damage arising from infections, radiations, chronic sickness and stress, and tends to shrink and be much less effective with increasing age.

The thymus begins to shrink in our teen years, gradually decreasing to a fraction of its former size as we age. The thymus hormones - which cause disease-fighting T-cells to mature, decline with the shriveling of the thymus gland.

The thymus gland is associated with the Triple Warmer Meridian of the Fire Element, for which the Chinese Five-Element Law (used in acupuncture and meridian therapy) ascribes emotions such as despair, despondency, loneliness, hopelessness, etc.

Thyroid
The thyroid, through the hormone thyroxine determines growth, controls body temperature, regulates the metabolism or the burning of food in the body and influences, to a great extent, mental and emotional balance. Also, it is of special importance for the proper functioning of the reproductive system. The inter-relationship between reproductive functions and thyroid functions is very complex and not entirely understood, but it is known that various changes, especially in girls and women, are apt to cause changes in thyroid functions. For instance, a slight enlargement of the thyroid gland is common at puberty, during pregnancy and menopause. "When the thyroid gland is functioning properly, we are hardly aware of its existence. It stores practically all of the body's supply of iodine, releases thyroxine into the blood stream at intervals and regulates all the bodily functions we have mentioned above. Disorders of the thyroid gland are apparently caused by two conditions:

(One) lack of sufficient iodine in the diet, so that the thyroid cannot obtain enough to manufacture thyroxine, or (two) some disorder of the body which creates a demand for more thyroxine than the gland can manufacture."

Tinnitis
Over 40 million people in the USA suffer from tinnitus, a ringing in the ears, or other abnormal ear sounds such as hissing, chirping, roaring, buzzing, whistling, etc. Five million of these people have tinnitus so bad it incapacitates them. The greatest single cause is prescription drug use (The American Tinnitus Association, POB 5, Portland, OR 97207, will send you a list of known drugs that can cause tinnitus; send them a SASE). Even aspirin can cause tinnitus. Perhaps the second most common cause is allergy from foods (common food allergens include milk, cheeses, wheat, egg, tomato, peanut, corn, soy, orange, chocolate, coffee, aspartame). Other tinnitus causes include high blood pressure, anemia, thyroid problems, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, impacted ear wax, ear infection, hearing loss, and nutritional deficiencies especially of vitamin B12 and zinc. Remedies are self-suggested by rereading this list of causes. Other sources of help include the Tomatis Sound Therapy (over half of tinnitus sufferers get some relief; contact Sound Therapy, POB E237, St. James, N.S.W. 2000, Australia, for USA practitioners), acupuncture, homeopathy, supplementation with Ginkgo Biloba.

Titanium
  • Year discovered: 1791
  • Atomic No.: 22
  • Symbol: Ti
  • Atomic weight: 47.90

Titanium is a brilliant white metal in its pure form. It is the ninth most abundant element in the Earth's crust, obtained from rutile, ilmenite and sphens, as well as vitanites and many iron ores. Titanium is lighter than steel but just as strong. For this reason, titanium is used widely in the aerospace industry. It is also used in equipment by the chemical, paper and pulp, and oil and gas industries. It can be alloyed with aluminum, vanadium, molybdenum, iron and manganese.

Tolstoy Effect
Dr. Stolls favorite explanation of why the conventional medical community is so slow to incorporate new ideas. the relevant quote from tolstoy is below:

I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives.

Tonsils
The tonsils are the tail end of the lymphatic system.

Tonsillitis
The tonsils are the tail end of the lymphatic system. They swell up with pus and infection when the body is overloaded with toxic material. When the system is overloaded with waste that an inactive lymphatic system cannot eliminate, the tonsils become enlarged and sore. They are a safety valve of the body - a warning system, if you wish. They should never be removed from the body. The lymphatic system can be cleared through exercise. The lymph system has no pump such as the bloodstream has the heart. Exercise can activate the lymph system to carry waste products from the cells.

[Dr. Christopher]

The glandular formula of 3 parts mullein and one part lobelia can be taken internally as a tea or capsules and externally as a fomentation around the neck covering the affected glands. Of course the tonsils will diminish in size and infectious content with adherence to the correct principles of nutrition contained in the mucusless diet.

Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome is an inherited, neurological disorder characterized by repeated and involuntary body movements (tics) and uncontrollable vocal sounds. In a minority of cases, the vocalizations can include socially inappropriate words and phrases -- called coprolalia. These outbursts are neither intentional nor purposeful. Involuntary symptoms can included eye blinking, repeated throat clearing or sniffing, arm thrusting, kicking movements, shoulder shrugging or jumping.

These and other symptoms typically appear before the age of 18 and the condition occurs in all ethnic groups with males affected 3 to 4 times more often than females. Although the symptoms of TS vary from person to person and range from very mild to severe, the majority of cases fall into the mild category. Associated conditions can include obsessivity, attentional problems and impulsiveness.

Most people with TS lead productive lives and participate in all professions. Increased public understanding and tolerance of TS symptoms are of paramount importance to people with Tourette Syndrome.

Toxicology
The branch of science that examines the harmful effects of substances to which organisms are continually exposed. These substances may originate outside the body (exotoxins) or inside the body (endotoxins). Outside of the body, sources of toxic compounds include air, water, soil, naturally occurring food components, chemical additives to food, workplace chemicals, medications, herbicides, pesticides, and cosmetics. Inside the body, toxins may be generated through microbial imbalance in the intestinal tract, constitutive metabolic imbalances, induced metabolic imbalances, neuroendocrine imbalances, nutritional inadequacies, and stresses, including oxidative stress.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chinese Medicine is based on a "five element theory" and those elements are wood, earth, metal, fire, and water. Our bodies have two energy channels representing organ systems in each of those five elements of nature. Optimally, these all work in balance and in synchronized harmony We opt not to short circuit our energy systems ( like our nervous system) by lack of water, the basic conductor of electrical energy. That creates imbalance which leads to disease disorder and illness. Basic health is determined by what goes into and comes out of our bodies. How and what we think and believe determines how we manage this system and our spirit or Qi (pronounced Chi) or energy is the driving force of life.

Now, about half of Chinese medical practitioners in China are Traditional Chinese medicine doctors and half of them practicing Western Medicine. They are both treated equally in China in medical society. Both have their University Education( the person who will practice Chinese medicine go to a traditional Chinese medicine school for 4 years and the west medical practitioners go to a medical school for 4 years ) and pass different license examings to have their own license and practice in different clinics. For nearly every hospital there are two kinds of doctors practicing in different fields and some time cooperate to help one patient.

Trophoblast
The trophoblast is a very important group of cells for the developing embryo. Although the cells may not directly form the embryo, they are necessary for the embryo to develop. Without the work of the trophoblast the embryo would not be able to attach itself to the unterine wall and the mother would reject it. Not to mention the embryo would not be nourished without the aid of the trophoblast developing in to the chorion. I think it is very interesting how the trophoblast cells take on an endocrine role to aid in the overall development and gestation period. Rather interesting how the hormones from the developing embryo (trophoblast) affect the mother.

There are two types of trophoblast cells: the cytotrophoblast and the syncytiotrophoblast. The cytotrophoblast functions in sticking to the uterine wall and then using proteolytic enzymes to extend into the uterus. Once extended into the uterus the uterine blood vessels are then revised so that maternal blood can be in contact with the vessels of the fetus. The syncytiotrophoblast just continues the extension of the embryo into the uterus. The trophoblast also forms part of the chorion which, along with the placenta, is pivotal in the embryo-mother relationship. As far as the timing of trophoblast formation, it must be well developed within the first 7 days of embryonic maturation because at this time the embryo must implant into the uterine wall in order to begin receiving nutrients from the mother.

Nutrients and oxygen are delievered to the developing embryo which will eventually deplete its reserve of energy provided by the yolk inside the egg, so it is important for the trophoblast to develop soon.

The trophoblast is determined early because it is a type of precurser for several other cells, such as the placenta.
