Joints
All of the movements of our body involve the use of our joints. Joints connect bones together to allow movement and flexibility, and are held together by tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues. Some connective tissues cushion joints and bones against friction, and others support internal organs, attach muscle to bone, and form the walls of blood vessels. Joint conditions, such as arthritis which results in painful and swollen joints, affect a majority of Americans by the age of 70.

In order to protect against joint and connective tissue problems, we need to be able to continually produce new connective tissue to avoid the wear and tear which leads to inflammation and tissue deterioration. Nutrients such as glucosamine sulfate, sulfur, chondroitin, mangansese, zinc, and vitamin C are an important part of building healthy connective tissues throughout the body.

Juniper Berries
Juniper berries come from evergreen shrubs that grow in northern continental areas, and have been used since the 16th century in herbal medicines. Juniper berries are rich in vitamin C, volatile oils and other nutrients. They are a dietary staple of woodland animals and are added as a flavoring to gin, beer and lunch meats. The antiseptic, astringent, diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties of juniper berries make them popular with herbalists today to treat a variety of ailments.

Juniper berries are beneficial in treating infections, especially within the urinary tract, bladder, kidneys, and prostate. Their antiseptic properties help remove waste and acidic toxins from the body, stimulating a fighting action against bacterial and yeast infections.

Juniper berries help increase the flow of digestive fluids, improving digestion and eliminating gas and stomach cramping. As a diuretic, juniper berries eliminate excess water retention contributing to weight loss.

Juniper berries' anti-inflammatory properties are ideal for relieving pain and inflammation related to rheumatism and arthritis. In addition, juniper berries are beneficial in reducing congestion, as well as treating asthma and colds.

(Juniper berries should be taken on a limited basis and avoided by pregnant women and people who suffer from kidney disease.)
